Senior Advisor, Cambridge Global Advisors, Former Obama DHS Counter Terrorism Official
Nate is a current Senior Advisor with Cambridge Global Advisors, LLC, a national security consulting and strategic communications firm. There he advises and supports Fortune 500, federal, and state and local clients in cybersecurity, counterterrorism, information and intelligence sharing, and law enforcement engagement. He supported the Voting Village’s election security exploits at DEFCON 2019 where numerous current-use voting machines were assessed for cyber and other vulnerabilities. Nate also supports the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center. Further, he provides guidance to clients on how best to engage with domestic and international law enforcement regarding issues such as terrorist use of the internet, cyber threats, terrorism prevention, countering foreign influence, and intelligence analysis. Most recently, Nate contributed to CBS This Morning, Meet the Press Daily, MSNBC Live, and, CNN Tonight to provide counterterrorism analysis in the wake of the El Paso domestic terrorist attack. Other contributions include his analysis on the 5G network race and national security vulnerabilities posed by Huawei with Hill TV.
Previous to joining Cambridge Global Advisors, Nate served as a Department of Homeland Security Obama Administration counterterrorism official and advisor to Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, National Counterterrorism Center, and White House National Security Council. Nate’s role focused on developing partnerships with domestic and international law enforcement, state and local officials, tech-sector industry, foundations, non-government organizations, and communities across the country to develop solutions to prevent terrorism of all forms. In this role, Nate directly contributed to the Obama Administration’s efforts to counter the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
Early on, Nate represented DHS as a key contributor to the White House’s first Strategic Implementation Plan to Empower Local Partners to Prevent Violent Extremism in the United States, its updating in 2016, and led the interagency effort to develop and host the Global Counterterrorism Forum’s workshop for Countering Violent Extremism Through Community Oriented Policing. Through these efforts, Nate specialized in terrorist use of the internet regarding content and cyber tradecraft. Further, he worked closely with Five Eyes (United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Australia) and European Union partners to develop information sharing standards and channels regarding terrorist based cyber threats and mitigation efforts.
He was a regular counterterrorism lecturer at the CIA Sherman Kent School for Intelligence Analysis; and has given lectures at the White House, National Counterterrorism Center, National Security Agency, U.S. Department of State, Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Institute of Peace, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Before joining the Obama Administration in March of 2009, Nate held numerous senior positions with the 2008 Obama Presidential Campaign throughout the primary contests and general election.
Nate is a contributor and advisor to numerous media outlets (CBS News, CNN, MSNBC, C-SPAN, Hill TV, TRT World, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Vanity Fair, Daily Beast, Huffington Post, The Hill, Yahoo News) on national security, cybersecurity, counterterrorism, and law enforcement.
Nate is a graduate of the White House National Security Leadership Workshop’s inaugural class and a board member of the Obama Latino Appointee Alumni Association, LATINOS44. He is a graduate from Syracuse University and has a Master’s Degree from the U.S. Naval War College in national security and counterterrorism.
